Raspberry Picking at Horse Hill Berry Farm

We always see the “U Pick” fruit signs on the side of the road…but we never go. It was time to see what it was all about and this weekend we joined my cousin Kasey and Auntie Danilynn at Horse Hill Berry Farm to pick some delicious raspberries!

HORSE HILL BERRY FARM

It was my cousin Kasey who let us know about this place. It’s close to the city, easy to find and a family run operation. It started with farming roots back in the 1800s but in 2010 they opened Horse Hill Berry Farm Raspberry U-Pick and have continued to plant more acres each year.  As of 2021 they have 15 acres of raspberries for U-Pick.

HOW TO GET THERE

Horse Hill Berry Farm is north of the city near Fort Saskatchewan. From our (very) southside home in Ellerslie it took us a good 35 mins to drive there.

  • From Anthony Henday/Hwy 216 take Manning Drive/Hwy15 Northeast for 7km

  • Turn RIGHT at 17 st NE (Gibbons turn off) and immediately RIGHT again at Fort Road.

  • After 0.2km turn LEFT onto 17 St NE and drive 1.2km.

  • Turn LEFT on 211 Ave NE and drive 1.4k m (across train tracks)

  • Follow red/white signs and turn RIGHT.

  • The berry farm is on the LEFT. Park in the lot according to the signs.

HOW IT WORKS

A quick click to their website will let you know if they are open or not. Usually in the summer they are open 9am - 6pm every day.

You park in their lot and walk up to the “berry shack” where they will ask you how many people are picking . ( They charge $5 for everyone 2 and older). The $5 is actually credited to your final berry weight which is nice!

I had no idea but there are a few varieties of raspberries so they will direct you to the rows that grow the ones you want.

PRICING

(For 2022)

As mentioned before it is a $5.00 U-Pick fee per person age 2 and up (credited to final berry weight)
$15.00/kg U-Pick Raspberries - pails provided or bring your own. We got one of theirs and they are a great souvenir.
Pre-picked raspberries - 40$ pail, minimum 2kg, as available

They also sell Honey and Raspberry Jam :

Honey from their Bees: 500g $10.00 & 1kg $17.00
Raspberry Jam $10.00 as available

Make sure you bring Cash or interac as they are preferred.

A FEW LAST NOTES…..

This is ironic coming from me haha but make sure you dress for the weather. And bugs. A hat, long sleeves and pants. Closed toed shoes. NO ANIMALS. Sorry Cactus - you gotta stay home! And lastly, if nature calls- there is an onsite outhouse available.

Hope you enjoy your “U-Pick” experience as much as we did!! It was really fun to support a local farm and get the girls working for their fruit haha!

xoxo Jack
