A DREAMY Stay in Cancun at Dreams Resort & Spa
The experience is in the name of the hotel. We recently went to Cancun, Mexico for a week and were treated like royalty at the Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa. Everything about this resort is well thought out to make your stay an enjoyable one. Thank you very much to Leonardo, the hotel social media manager for his hospitality during our stay. He and his staff really went above and beyond for us.
Read on to find out a little bit more about our stay we can’t stop talking about!
THE RESORT
The Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa is about a 20 min shuttle ride away from the Cancun International Airport. It’s located on the hotel strip in Cancun and offers tons of amenities including 5 pools, a buffet restaurant, 24 hour room service, specialty restaurants and lots of bars. It’s about a 15 minute walk to downtown Cancun and there are a few shops right across from the hotel (although be careful! They are pretty pricey).
They have 414 rooms including suites and upgraded rooms with the Preferred Club ( more on that below) . All hotel guests have access to free WiFi - and it works really well!
They do about 50 -60 weddings every year with one of the most beautiful locations I have ever seen. If you are looking for a destination wedding; without a doubt check out this hotel!
The one very unique thing about the Dreams Sands Cancun is that everything is centralized. It’s not a huge spread out resort. There is one big tower and it’s RIGHT on the beach. If you forget something in your room; it’s not a huge deal haha! Less walking and more beachin’!
THE ROOMS
The rooms are streamlined and beautiful. We had a room with a balcony and looked right onto the ocean. We arrived at sunset; it was picture perfect.
The Dreams Sands Cancun offers rooms with 2 double beds or a king size bed. All rooms offer a mini fridge, coffee maker, amenities and 24 hour room service with your mini fridge stocked daily. There is also a TV in every room offering lots of channels ( a few English) but also the ability to sign into your streaming accounts.
It’s important to note that with this resort not all rooms come with a balcony so if that’s important to you make sure you request it!
They also offer suites for families who need a little more room!
All of the plug ins for our appliances ( Yes I still brought my curling iron to Mexico haha) were like home so no need to bring any converters.
Again - WiFi is strong throughout the resort; we never had a problem.
PREFERRED CLUB
The Preferred Club at the Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa is for those that want a little extra pampering. You have your own check in desk on the 1st floor with personalized check-in and check-out . There in the preferred club lounge you will also have daily continental breakfast service, afternoon hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, exquisite desserts and premium liquors .
We were lucky enough to experience the Preferred Club and I can tell you they make the BEST lattes in that lounge. I went every morning for my fav coffee.
There is also an exclusive Preferred Club members only pool. It is very lush and has a waterfall and it’s own dedicated bar and lounge chairs on the beach.
THE FOOD
There was a ton of choice here. They have 8 dining experiences including 5 à la carte restaurants, a buffet, a grill and a café with an ice cream parlor.
My absolute favourite night was the night we had at the Japanese Restaurant called Himitsu. It was a “Japanese Village” style dinner and the host chef was so much fun. I highly recommend making a reservation here.
Infact- Himitsu is the ONLY restaurant you have to make a reservation at. All of the other A La Cartes; El Patio (Mexican), Portofino (Italian), Gaucho Grill (Steakhouse) and Olio (Mediterranean) you do not need a reservation.
The buffet, World Cafe, offers a ton of choice for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. My fav every day was lunch where sushi and fresh made guacamole was served. Lots of other choices too haha but those always filled up my plate! They also have an omelette station In the mornings and a pasta station for lunch and dinner.
Also at the World Cafe is a “Kids Corner”. Loved this- tinier versions of some of the choices available at the buffet with a kid focus and of course lots of desserts!.
If you require more of a special night; each of the A La Carte restaurants feature a private room that you can book for an additional charge. These rooms are really special. There is also beach dining you can book ;).
THE POOL(S)!
There is a pool for everyone and every day at the Dreams Cancun Resort! Oh- and the white sand beach and ocean!
If you are going with small kids - they have a small kiddie pool that is shallow and warm!
They have a few different pools situated all within a small walking difference from each other. From a very deep pool ( the infinity pool) to a swim up bar pool there is a place for everyone. And LOTS of beach chairs. We never had a problem getting a few along side the pool. Towels are also provided at a few different stations (and no towel cards!).
OCEAN ACTIVITIES
There are lots of things to do in the ocean at the resort too! Since the hotel is beachfront it’s very easily accessible. Non-motorized water sports equipment can be easily rented for free (Kayaks etc).
For an extra charge you can also take out motorized water vehicles like skidoos or even take scuba diving lessons!
There is also a volleyball net right IN the ocean ( this is so cool!).
EXPLORERS CLUB
They have a kids club!! Explorers Club is for kids ages 3-12, offering video games, crafts treasure hunts and even a camping adventure on the beach. They are open daily from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
THE SPA
The Spa is so beautiful and really unique. It’s located right in the hotel and offers hydrotherapy, saunas, massages and hair & nail services. You can even make your own facial!
Plants and greenery are everywhere; you really feel like you’re in a jungle.
I have a 60 minute massage with hydrotherapy and absolutely loved it.
They also have an in house FISH SPA! You can dip your feet in for about 20 minutes and these tiny little fish will nibble away and eat all the dead skin off of your feet. It’s a crazy but very cool experience.
FITNESS CENTER
No surprise; I did not experience the fitness centre while we were here but I DID take a tour! It’s gorgeous with the gym built right around a tree. This is the kinda scenery I would love IF I was to go haha. Lots of machines and NEW machines are what stood out here. Peletons, treadmills, ellipticals and free weights too.
EXCURSIONS
We decided to do two excursions while we were in Cancun. You can easily book excursions right in the hotel lobby through Amstar. They will arrange transportation for you and take payment right there.
We went on a horseback riding tour through the Mayan Jungle & swimming in a natural cenote. This took place about 45 minutes away from the hotel in Playa Del Carmen at a ranch called Rancho Bonanza. It was so neat. We LOVED this one.
The other excursion we did was a trip back to Playa Del Carmen to see Cirque Du Soleil : JOYA. WOW is all I can say. While full disclosure; the tickets were VERY expensive, for us it was totally worth it. Kennedy is in aerial arts so for her to see this beautiful show was inspirational. They did an incredible job and it was truly an experience we will both never forget.
TRANSPORTATION
You are required to find your own transportation to the hotel from the airport, unfortunately there is not a shuttle. However getting a cab or a shuttle is quite easy. The hotel concierge can also help make arrangements for transportation services.
DOGS
We saw dogs at the hotel! They are indeed pet friendly for smaller breeds. They welcome small dogs (under 22 lbs. or 10 kg) in specific room categories for a fee of $65 USD per night.
WANT TO GO?
We booked our trip through New West Travel in Edmonton. This was part of a radio group trip where we went to the Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa with 27 listeners. It was the best. The hotel treated all of us so well. These trips are really special because you come on the trip knowing one or two people and you leave with an entire group of friends. CISN Country ( The radio station I work at!) will likely be hosting another trip in early 2027 if you are interested in going!
See you in the SUN!
