A West End Family Adventure at The Hampton Inn & Suites West Edmonton

Our little fam is back together again (Bobby is on Spring Break up from the Rigs!) and this weekend we headed to the west end of Edmonton for a splashy staycation at the Hampton Inn and Suites West. The location is awesome; you’re just a few minutes drive from some of the best that our city has to offer (more on this later!).

Plus, because we stayed with Edmonton’s Best Hotels - we got a gift card to spend at Montana’s! That restaurant was MADE for families haha oh my gosh we had a blast.

When you book a hotel through Edmonton’s Best Hotels ; you get extra incentives like gas cards, gift certificates to restaurants or prepaid mastercards, even tickets to exciting events! No catch - you just gotta book through the Edmonton’s Best Hotels website. Why not boost your next vacation to the next level? It’s EASY with Edmonton’s Best Hotels!

WHERE WE STAYED

The Hampton Inn and Suites West Edmonton is the happiest hotel we have ever stayed at :) They pride themselves on it! You will see little references to “happiness” throughout the hotel and the staff fit the theme. It was very clean and had a really beautiful lobby.

There are 103 rooms. Check in is 3pm and Check out is 11am. Guests can enjoy a free hot breakfast (with a pretty great selection! ), WiFi, a business centre, a fitness centre, indoor pool, and a whirlpool.

They’re a 5 min drive to West Edmonton Mall and under 15 minutes to great attractions like The Valley Zoo and The Telus World of Science!

ROOMS

We were in a 2 Queen Studio Suite with a Sofabed. We were also able to get a crib ( playpen) for baby Tripp. If you are traveling with kids this room is a MUST. You could literally fit about 5 cribs in there haha. It was very large. There is also the option of adjoining rooms with these suites so that is nice!

As you walk in there was a generous “kitchen” area with a long countertop , mini fridge, microwave, sink and coffee machine. This was very handy with the kids - and the coffee cups were very cute.

We had a shower / bathtub which is always good with kids too. Nice glass doors. The bathroom itself was tinier but worth it to have the giant room. The vanity was completely open to the room.

Bed were comfy - pretty soft and lots of pillows. Also USB chargers right in the wall ; no need for the block. Something little but I love it.

It’s important to note there is just TV in the rooms; not netflix or prime etc. They did have a really big selection of movies ( including ones that were still in theatres) but you have to pay for them.

THE POOL!!!

The Pool is the GRAND attraction here if you’ve got kids! There are actually 3 pools; one for tiny tots (and ones that love to splash around!), a regular pool that isn’t too deep ( and was gloriously warm!) and a whirlpool.

The tiny tots one has a sprinkling mushroom that is TON of fun! The girls loved it. In fact we went swimming at night and then first thing in the morning. When we stay at hotels; our schedule runs a little ( or a lot) off track haha so it was nice that the pool is actually open until midnight. We didn’t have to rush.

There is also a fitness centre with quite a bit of equipment and machines on the main floor that is available to guests.

WHERE WE ATE

There is no dining restaurant on site. But they do have a snack bar in the lobby! Their sister hotel next door is Courtyard by Marriott. They have a bar and restaurant onsite. All Hampton guests get a 15% discount and the front desk can make reservations for you anytime!

But they do have BREAKFAST! It’s included in your room rate. And this little breakfast bar was AWESOME!

They had everything from eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, cereal, fruit, coffee, juice, muffins, bagels and our fav: A Waffle Bar! They even had different types of batter for the waffles. Plus the girls loved making their own. I was really impressed with the variety and the freshness of everything.

Now truth be told….I actually thought breakfast was until 11am. It is NOT. It is until 10am . If you’re like me and miss it - they do have little to go breakfast bags as well. THANK GOODNESS. They really saved the day here haha.

MONTANAS

One of the BEST things about Edmonton’s Best Hotels is that with every booking you get rewarded. One of those rewards that you can choose is an “Ultimate Dining Gift card”. It allows you to explore some of Canada’s most iconic restaurants including; Montana’s, State and Main & Original Joes.

We went to Montana’s for dinner and oh did we ever have a blast! The food was awesome, the service fast ( essential when you have kids haha! ) and we all left happy and full! Plus- the chocolate milk had a lid on it. Tiny - but a BIG DEAL!

They have a great kids menu which includes dessert ( cookies anyone??!) and you can order special drinks with cotton candy(these are a little extra!). Tripp loved the macaroni. We had deep fried pickles( of course!), shrimp, burgers, chicken fingers and a steak. I feel like we covered the menu pretty well haha.

I highly reccomend choosing the Ultimate Dining gift card option when booking with Edmonton Best Hotels. It made dinner so easy!

THE TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE

Less than a 15 minute drive from the Hampton Inn and Suites West Edmonton is The Telus World of Science! This place is just awesome. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon as a family and that’s exactly what we did. They have “Dinosaur’s- The Exhibition” on in their feature gallery right now and all 3 kids loved it!

You can see realistic dinosaurs everywhere and you can dig for fossils! They also have an interpretation centre where you can learn about fossils.

The Telus World of Science is always a hit with our family!

PETS

This is a PET FRIENDLY hotel which is just awesome ! Although Cactus already had a play date with another dog friend of his (Dax!); it is nice to have the option to bring him.

One thing I noticed as well was how clean the room was. Often with pet rooms - lets be real - hotels don’t always give you the nicest rooms because of course pets could ruin them. But here; our room was so clean.

There is a little turf of grass to the side of the hotel that pets can use for his business too.

There is a non refundable fee of $50 for pets. They do have a weight limit of 75lbs. The pet fee is for stays under 4 nights; if 5 nights or more the pet fee is $75

PARKING

As a registered guest, parking is absolutely free! There is LOTS of parking too which is nice. There is EV Charging on site. All parking is uncovered.
