See You Later (Not Goodbye) Chris Scheetz

Just writing the title to this - I got tears in my eyes.

Last night at my daughter’s soccer game; one of the parents said to me:

“Country Music Has Gone In & Out of My Life…But Chris Scheetz Has Always Been There”

The world has known that Chris will be leaving CISN Country after 35 years for about 6 weeks now. And over the last 6 weeks we have received the most heartfelt and moving messages. Chris Scheetz has been a part of so many lives and I have been fortunate enough to call him a coworker, cohost and most importantly FRIEND for the last 15 years.

Many people know that Chris grew up in Thorsby, AB. Many people DON’T know that my husband Bobby’s family lived just down the road from The Scheetz Family. Chris’s sister and brothers actually babysat my husband Bobby. But we never knew until I sat in that chair across from Chris in the control room. I will always remember when we both put it all together. I was just filling in on CISN Country at the time ( I worked at Shaw TV then) and something clicked when I mentioned my “boyfriend Bob”. I’ll never forget that look of fear AND joy when he asked “Are you dating Bob Sweeney”. And the rest is history.

I have lived the BEST years of my life on The CISN Country Morning Show with all of you and with Chris right across from me. He was the one that approved the time off when I got engaged and Bobby had planned this giant trip to NYC that I couldn’t know about. Chris MC’d our wedding, he was one of the first people to find out about all 3 of my pregnancies ( sometimes before I even actually told him haha thanks hormones), and he has always been a sounding board for me. Chris LIVES the song “Humble & Kind” by Tim McGraw. He legit could have wrote it.

But I’m not alone. Chris has been there for ALL of us. The stories you all have shared about hard times, good times and everything in between. Chris has been the one thing that has stayed steady.

Just over 10 years ago when Matt joined the show….we had NO IDEA what the show would eventually become. Hearing your stories about how we have become a part of your morning routine and how you consider us friends that start your day will never ever be taken for granted. We cherish the memories just as much as you.

A little” inside radio”…the industry is TOUGH. Now more than ever before. People are jaded, tired and miserable. But not Chris. To spend 35 years in one career; let alone one station is an anomoly. NO ONE does it like Chris Scheetz. His creativity, passion and drive are unmatched. I truly have never met anyone like him.

I feel SO lucky to be a part of this magic for the last 15 years. I will never have a coworker and a friend like him. As Reba asks” Is there life out there”…..it’s time for you to explore it Chris. Give that time that you have been so generous with to your family. Its’ going to be a great next 35 years.

I will never hear “Country Roads” and NOT think of you dear friend. Thank you for sharing your life with ALL of us. It’s time to go home Chris, to the place where you belong. (But can we come over for a hot tub and a fire soon ;) )

And as for Matt & I….we are very excited to carry on the torch at CISN Country. It’s going to be a lot of fun (and sarcasm!) spending my mornings with Matt. He’s quick, smart and a secret athlete haha. If I don’t kill him; its gonna be awesome. It’s Old Friends & A New Show….and it all starts Tuesday May 21. Can’t WAIT.
