A “Babymoon” At The DoubleTree West Edmonton Hotel

It’s a relatively new term but one I’m totally on board with!

We’ve all heard of a “Honeymoon” that you take just for yourselves after the hustle and bustle of a wedding. But what about a “Babymoon” just for yourselves before the hustle and bustle of a newborn?

That’s exactly what my husband Bobby and I did this past weekend and I could cry thinking about it. (Thanks hormones haha). It was total bliss.

WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed at The DoubleTree West Edmonton by Hilton. It used to the be the Mayfield Inn but has undergone an extensive renovation- as in stripped to the bones and redone. It is absolutely beautiful. It’s a great location as it’s close to West Ed and all the shopping. Plus a short drive to The Valley Zoo and Telus World of Science! It’s also pretty convenient because it has everything in the hotel; from a spa to dinner theatre to a glorious pool. (more on all of these a little later)

A unique thing about the DoubleTree is that when you check in - you get a cookie. YES! A fresh baked cookie. It’s a tradition they have had for decades. I remember staying at DoubleTree’s when I was younger with my parents in the United States and my dad literally talked about that cookie for about an hour before we arrived haha. They are legendary. (And I’m happy to say they live up to the hype here in Canada too!)

ROOMS

They have two towers at this hotel and one of them is completely dedicated to SUITES.

We stayed in a 1 Bedroom King Hospitality Suite and it was UNREAL. Without a doubt the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed in haha. I laughed in that I actually missed the girls as this would’ve been a great suite for all of us.

There was a kitchen with a full sized fridge; even a dining room table. It was like out of the movies. If you are looking to treat yourself (as a couple or as a family!) these are the suites for it. All of suites are quite generous and beautiful.

The hotel rooms in the other tower have all been redone and are so nice too. The bathrooms are clean and fresh; with reusable bottles attached to the wall (LOVE this!).

WiFi is included with your room rate.

DAMARA SPA

It was such a treat having a spa RIGHT IN the hotel. We were treated to a 45 minute couples massage with Khushi and Rose. Let me tell you - Rose gave me the most awesome pregnancy massage I have ever had haha the girl knows what she is doing! I loved that we could do this together. It is no surprise I have a hard time relaxing so having this as part of hotel stay really helped with that. Plus they do have RMT’s at Damara Spa so if you would like to use benefits; you totally can!

Damara Day Spa offers Facials, Massage, Manicure and Pedicure, Waxing, Makeup and much more.

POOL

You know I love my hotel pools and it’s always a key factor in choosing a hotel. The DoubleTree West Edmonton does not disappoint. First of all - it looks like a resort! Gorgeous blue water and lounge chairs all over. The sun shines in from the floor to ceiling windows. Now get this - IT’S 24 HOURS!! I’ve actually never stayed at a hotel where the pool is open 24 hours. This was the best!

They also have a huge gym but no surprise here- I did not try it out haha.

MAYFIELD DINNER THEATRE

A unique part of the hotel ( and historic to be honest!) is that the Mayfield Dinner Theatre is attached right to the hotel. This place has been around for decades and tons of stars have graced the stage. We were able to see a piano show called “2 Pianos 4 Hands”. It was pretty funny.

It was a neat idea to have a built in date night right at the hotel. The dinner is a buffet and they literally have everything you could imagine from sushi to roast beef; pasta to a big salad bar. And of course a dessert table that will make you drool! I loved this night out!

FOOD

There is a restaurant called “Stages” in the hotel and it was busy both for dinner and for breakfast ( a good sign! ). We enjoyed the breakfast buffet there and it was HUGE. A waffle bar, hot breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns, lots of pastries and tons of fruit. I was a little sad to be pregnant on this stay as I would’ve LOVED to have added that fresh salmon onto my bagel! Next time :)

There is also a mini marketplace on site called “Made Market” with tons of drinks, snacks and candy. Nice and convenient to have for sure.

DOGS

GREAT news! They do welcome pets. 25kg max with a deposit of $50 for up to a 4 night stay. Over 4 nights it is $75. 2 pets max; dogs and cats welcome. There is a pet relief area on the property.

PARKING

TONS of parking on site at the hotel and no extra charge. Valet is not available.
