Travelling w/a Baby Made Easy! Well…Easier

BY FAR the number one question in my inbox is always “Can you give me some tips for travelling with my baby” ? If you’ve gone anywhere with a baby you know this; it is no small feat. The amount of planning, packing, perspiration and patience is not for the faint of heart haha. So here are a few things that have made our travel experiences a bit better whether you’re going near or far (cue Celine) :

  1. AT YOUR DESTINATION- WHAT DO YOU HAVE ALREADY THERE?

If you can have a stroller or car seat at your destination that makes everything easier. TONS of cities have rental places you can get them from or lots of car companies will also have car seats! Just google the city you’re travelling to and car seat rental. You will find a ton of things from toys to strollers to cribs.

If you don’t have that option; THIS CAR SEAT BACKPACK is great. I have travelled with it a few times and it holds up. You can wear it like a backpack and either check it like baggage ( thats what I’ve always done; it comes in the oversized baggage area) or you can gate check it and have it right as you get off the plane.

2. BABY WEAR

5000% recommend baby wearing for the airport it’s so much easier. But bring a Muslin blanket with you (like THIS ONE) - you can cover baby when they sleep or you can put it between you and baby and you both won’t get so hot. When I get even a little bit flustered I get so hot which is not a good time for me or baby haha this blanket draped between us keeps us both cool and cozy.

My fav is the Baby Bjorn but you can wear any carrier that is most comfortable for you and baby!

3. FEED ( BOTTLE OR BOOB) DURING LANDING AND TAKE OFF FOR THE EARS

Pretty self explanatory. Sucking on a soother or even their thumb will also help. Basically anything to keep that jaw moving.

4. WEAR JEWELERY

But nothing fancy or breakable haha! A sparkly plastic bracelet or something along those lines works wonders for distraction. It keeps them entertained and they can chew it! These two below can be found HERE and HERE

5. BACKPACKS ALL THE WAY

A backpack is the best way to go for your carry on or diaper bag. Easy access and to carry. The one I use is actually from a Jillian Harris Jilly Box . THIS BACKPACK has amazing reviews and at the time this blog is published- it’s on sale!! When mine breaks - I will be switching to this one I think!

6. THE MOST IMPORTANT: GIVE YOURSELF GRACE

Keep your expectations low and just know that everyone is actually pretty understanding with a baby. So they cry. Big whoop. No one is going to be mad at you.
Baby will 100% feed off your energy so try (way easier said then done) to keep cool . Low expectations ; you can’t be disappointed lol and usually they will surprise you! Your baby is awesome!

I hope this helps a bit if you’re planning an exciting trip with your babe! YES it’s def scary but the best thing you can do is just go for it. Don’t overthink it ( haha so much easier said than done I know firsthand!) and trust yourself. You’ve GOT THIS. And you’re never alone. People will surprise you; there is always someone who will be happy to help you. Maybe we will even be on a flight together one of these days :)

Happy Travels xoxo Jacks
