Rainbow Valley Campground DOMES!
If you are looking to get away from it all without having to travel very far; the Rainbow Valley Campground is PERFECT for you! Over the Mother’s Day weekend the kids and I stayed in one of their 3 comfort camping domes and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Let’s be clear; this is not really camping haha. It’s an experience. There is electricity, heated beds ( YES HEATED BEDS), Nespresso machines and breathtaking views and trails. Are you excited to book yet? Read on to find out all about our stay!
RAINBOW VALLEY CAMPGROUND
The campground is located right beside Snow Valley Ski Hill. It’s history dates back to 1963, when the City of Edmonton initially operated it, and Snow Valley Ski Club took over management in 1994.
It boasts over 66 sites plus 3 comfort camping domes with many amenities and easy access to a walking trail network that follows Whitemud Creek all the way to the North Saskatchewan River.
The campground boasts numerous amenities, including the Rainbow Valley Chalet, free showers, play areas, outdoor cookhouses, and a sani-dump station.
The entire area is REALLY rich with history; the Whitemud Creek Coal Mine was right in the area until it closed in 1970.

THE DOMES
There are 3 domes you can choose from; The Snow Dome is the largest by far and sleeps up to 5, The Gem and Rainbow dome sleep 2. We stayed in the Snow Dome and it was GIANT.
Each dome is fully furnished including bedding. As I mentioned before; the queen size bed in the Snow Dome had a heated mattress pad. As someone who has never had that before; WOW what a treat! Especially since we were staying in May; it did get a little chilly at night. There are lots of blankets available in the dome. There are also heaters provided throughout the entire space.
There is a coffee machine and a fridge as well.
There is no plumbing in the domes so you do have to bring your own water. The washrooms are a short walk away and are super clean and have flush toilets. Plus there are FREE showers too!
A propane fire pit is included ( you have to bring your own propane) and there was also a gorgeous fire pit we could use just for us! All three domes have their own.
Guided Dome Check-In time is 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. They will show you all around and answer any questions you may have. Check out time in no later than 11am. Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Free WiFi is available.
FOOD
You have to bring your own food, dishes, cookware and utensils. There is a wash station right across from the domes. There is also a small convenience store available nearby in the Rainbow Chalet.
Right by the campground is a cute restaurant called “Creekside Eats” on site!
We were there early in the season so the restaurant was not open but I can tell you that Skip The Dishes and many of your favourite delivery services deliver right to the campground. That was AWESOME!! We had hot dogs by the fire at night and Mcdonald’s by delivery in the morning haha. Best of both worlds.
SNOW VALLEY AERIAL PARK TOWER & OTHER ACTIVITIES
There is no shortage of activities all around the campground. You have probably seen the aerial park tower driving by on the Whitemud. It opens on May 30th and is a ton of fun for kids AND adults!
They also have Target & Mini Golf and Gold Mining!
All throughout the campground there are playgrounds and paths and trails to explore. This place is a dream for parents wanting to give their children a “Wild-Hood”. We absolutely love it.

We had a blast at Rainbow Valley Campground. It’s a mini wilderness getaway in the heart of the city. I cannot wait to take the kids back! If you’re looking for something unique to do this summer try out the domes or even a campsite here; you’re gonna love it too!
