Life Update : Bobby’s Sister Got Married!

It’s been a busy summer already and a wedding kicked it all off! My husband Bobby has a younger sister Sam. She got engaged back in 2019 and like SO many couples had to put off the wedding 3 different times due to the pandemic.

But FINALLY on June 11; the perfect day finally arrived and we all got to see her and the love of her life, Tyler tie the knot!

Here’s a few details about the day and where we stayed!

THE VENUE

The couple decided to get married at Emerald Lake Lodge. WOW. You seriously cannot take a bad picture here. It’s located about 5.5 hours from Edmonton ( 30 mins past Lake Louise) and it is something!

The lake is just that - EMERALD GREEN. The vivid green color of the water is caused by powdered rock from the glaciers which reflects the blue-green spectrum of sunlight. It is truly magical.

It kinda felt like this was a resort wedding. Since the wedding was on a Saturday; most to the family stayed the entire weekend at the resort. It’s very remote ( think no other shops or stores or restaurants around and NO WIFI) So we were always seeing each other passing by , taking walks and exploring. I loved it.

THE WEDDING

My husband Bobby got to officiate the wedding- how cool is that?! Although he was VERY nervous haha but he nailed it. I was so proud of him and I know it was really special for Sam to have her brother do the honours.

Sam looks so gorgeous and she radiated happiness. Her dress was so pretty, her hair was lovely and the flowers were stunning. I don’t know how she does it, but she was calm, cool and collected the entire time. TEACH ME YOUR WAYS.

Kennedy and Lilly got to be flower girls! Sam, being the cool bride that she is, let the girls pick their own dresses so you know they went full princess haha! We got their dresses made by a local designer, Oakely Rae Handmade. She truly goes above and beyond for her clients. These dresses will be keepsakes.

Sam got married at a lookout by the lake and we all celebrated at Cilantro By The Lake - one of the restaurants there.

It was a perfect night. So much fun.

EMERALD LAKE LODGE ACCOMODATIONS

As I mentioned; there is ONLY the lodge here. So you options are to stay at the lodge in one of their cabins or down the way in Lake Louise ( about 30 mins away).

I warn you - it’s expensive. No doubt there. However you can sometimes find deals on travel websites. That’s what we did and were able to score a room rate of about $350/nt compared to $500 +/ nt. We were in VERY high season though!

But there is something REALLY special about staying here. It was still expensive but I am so glad we did. We stayed in a standard lodge room with two double beds. It had plenty of room for the four of us!

The absolute coolest thing was the REAL fireplace. A wood burning fireplace is in every room and it is fairytale like. They supply you with wood, paper, kindling and matches and make it really easy to light. You get to have the roaring fire, the smell, the sounds of it all in your room. I loved it ( if you can’t tell haha).

We also had a balcony looking out on to the lake.

Food was really delicious. But again - expensive. There is only the lodge to eat at. Kids meals were around $12 with adults paying around $35- $45 a plate for dinner.

OTHER THINGS WE DID

We were able to rent a canoe ( They are $80/hr) and head out on the lake one afternoon. It was breathtaking and a really neat idea to see the entire lake and the lodge from a different perspective

We also walked around lots there are cute little trails everywhere and they were easy enough for the girls to hike!

I really want to go back to Emerald Lake Lodge in the Winter. It was absolutely stunning in the summer - I can only imagine it with snow. As I had mentioned before there is NO WIFI in any of the rooms; if you need to check your email / socials you can get it in the main lodge where the restaurant is . While I was terrified of this…it actually worked out quite nicely. It was a bit of relief to be able to unplug for a day or 2 : ) But you can bet I was eager to post those photos of the wedding haha!

Until next time! xoxo Jack
