Glamp Good-ing in an A-Frame Cabin in the Woods

This was our second time at Glamp Good and wow it did not disappoint! (Read about our first experience a couple of years ago HERE).

Just an hour away from Edmonton; you can “glamp” in a geodome, a “Firefly” tent suspended in the air or in one of their brand new A- Frame cabins. This place is fantastic because it is close to home and very easy to find ( they will send you directions once you book).

We experienced an A- Frame cabin for the weekend and it was pure bliss in the middle of the Boreal Forest.

WHERE WE STAYED

There are currently 3 Geodomes at Glamp Good. The Aspen, The Tamarack and The Spruce. There is also a “firefly” tent suspended above the ground.

But the newest additions are 2 brand new A- Frame cabins; the Fern and Hawthorne.

There have been many upgrades to Glamp Good since we stayed a few years ago. They now have a nordic sauna, a shower house, a gazebo and propane fire pits. More on all of these below.!

We stayed in the Fern cabin; which took it’s inspiration from the movie “Ferngully”. Gosh I loved that movie as a kid haha. This place was a such a treat to stay in as a family, there was room for the 5 of us - including a playpen!

These domes and cabins are completely off grid. So that means no running water and power is solar ( so no coffee machines or hair dryers!). The solar power does power a laptop and charge your phone. So if you had some movies preloaded; it would make for a pretty great movie night under the stars.

The fireplace in the cabins adds to the atmosphere. It is super easy to operate and keeps you really warm and toasty! No decor note has been left untouched. The Mushroom lights, the ferns throughout and the little accents all over make these cabins picture perfect.

The girls absolutely loved the loft area of the A Frames. Nothing beats that view. We spent so much time up there.

Nearby there are wineries, breweries, shops, lakes and a grocery store. ESPECIALLY in the summer - you’ve got lots to do!

The cabins and geodomes are right in the middle of the woods so it’s a great way to reconnect with nature. Go for a walk, enjoy a fire, read a book ; the forest is literally your playground. There IS internet available (3G & LTE) however it can go in and out sometimes.

DOGS

YES Glamp Good is super pet friendly!! It was so nice to have Cactus out there with us. Pets are welcome IN the domes and cabins but must stay off the furniture. (There is a pet sheet you get when you book as well!) There is a pet fee.

THE NORDIC SAUNA

This was the highlight for me. It was so beautiful and nothing beats that sauna smell. There is a huge glass window so you can really feel like you’re right in the heart of the forest while enjoying the heat and relaxation. I still cannot believe the owners, Mandy and Simon built this themselves. It truly is a labour of love and one of the most unique things about Glamp Good. Essential oils and water to pour on the hot rocks make this experience one you will never forget.

BATHROOMS AND THE SHOWER HOUSE

Being off grid with no running water does make you think about the bathroom situation haha. I am happy to report- Glamp Good has made it pretty darn comfortable. While there are outhouses with compost toilets around the property there is also a shower house now! All guests have access to their off-grid, indoor, heated, on-demand hot shower house . It has a composting toilet inside and easy instructions on how to use the shower.

GAZEBO AREA

There is also a central gazebo area and it includes a BBQ, a propane range and a pizza oven! All with propane included.

FOOD

If you book ( and I hope you do; I know you will love it!) its important to note that you have to bring all of your own dishes, cookware and food. As well as drinking water. Just like camping.

Each dome has a camp stove and a fire pit. There is also a BBQ you can use as mentioned above. When we were there we made macaroni and hot dogs for one dinner. Oatmeal in the morning. Basic, yes, but goes along with the theme haha! We also bought a premade cooked meal from Costco ( Chicken penne!) and cooked it on the camp stove with no trouble. It was a good camp stove provided.

There is also a shared greenhouse with table and chairs to cook or dine in if desired!

As well; you could always go into town and grab a bite to eat! We went into Breton one night; shout out to “Salt and Pepper”; great pizza haha!

WHAT TO BRING

Boots. We went in March and I wore my winter boots - GREAT decision. Wear footwear that you can walk in the forest in and get on and off easily as you have to take off your shoes / boots before entering the Geodome and cabins.

Extra blankets. It did get surprisingly chilly at night. The fireplace kept us pretty warm but it was nice to have an extra blanket. If you are staying in a geo dome for 4; you will have to bring an extra blanket and pillow for the futon / pull out couches. Bedding is provided for the main bed.

Food. As mentioned above.

A Book. These dome are off grid. There is a lot of down time. Enjoy it.

Preloaded movies. Ok if a book is not your thing make sure you have some movies downloaded to a laptop or a phone. (*Note we did get cell service out here)

HOW TO BOOK

There are two ways you can book. Through Air BnB or directly through Glamp Good ‘s brand new website. Rates start at $220 / nt with a 2 night booking minimum.

If you book through Glamp Good’s website directly; you can get 10% off your stay by using the code Jack10

We will be talking about this stay for a long time! The girls actually cried when we left - they LOVED their magical adventure in the woods. If you’re looking for something close to home, but def out of the norm - Glamp Good is the PERFECT place for you!

xoxo Jacks
