A Relaxing Stay At The Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge

Ahhhhhhhhh feel that? Yep - that’s the mountain air instantly making you feel relaxed without a care in the world. That’s what our stay at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge did for us. My husband Bobby and I got a babysitter for the weekend and hit the open road towards tranquility.

WHERE WE STAYED

The Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is absolutely beautiful. Situated in a great spot right in the Rocky Mountains; it’s about 45 minutes west of Calgary. Ironically we didn’t have our 3 kids for this trip but this hotel is AMAZING for families. They have so many activities and events happening each day and beautiful layouts for their rooms that suit everyone’s needs.

There are 247 guest rooms including large suites -and even some with real wood burning fireplaces. We stayed in one of these rooms and it was such a treat.

The community around the hotel is absolutely beautiful. Tons of walking trails and a few shops; along with the world famous Kananaskis Nordic Spa. We experienced it all and I’m so excited to share it with you.

ROOMS

This hotel has a great variety of rooms and suites. From your standard guest rooms with a king or 2 queens; to family suites with room for everyone!

We stayed in a loft suite with a real wood burning fire place. Simply put - it was amazing. 2 bathrooms, a bed that was super comfy and the shower was beautiful. They even had a coffee bar and room for a table and chairs.

We have previously stayed in a standard guest room and I can confidently say the rooms are pretty spacious! There would be enough room for a travel crib if you are traveling with little ones. The bathrooms can be a bit tight in those rooms.

All rooms are well appointed with a mini fridge, a Nespresso Machine and a kettle. Complimentary WiFi is also included and their outlets are USB cord compatible.

POOL / FITNESS AREA

The Kananaskis Lodge is home to the Nordic Spa - more on that just below!

But it also boasts a fantastic pool and hot tub. The hot tub is both indoor and outdoor ( my fav!) and the pool is gearing towards kids ( or those that are young at heart! ). With a woodland animals theme and some small waterslides; this would be any kids dream!

They also have a games room and a gym all in the same area.

NORDIC SPA

The Nordic Spa is what my dreams are made of. It’s an 18+ facility. Access to the spa is NOT included with your hotel stay - you do have to book separate tickets HERE. Please note there are no in / out privileges. Once you’re in ; you’re in. There is a great restaurant on site though - so you literally can stay alllll day.

This spa is something to write home about. They encourage everyone to do the hydrotherapy cycle of Hot-Warm-Cold-Rest-Repeat. Hot tubs, warm tubs, saunas, steam rooms, an exfoliation cabin and a cold plunge; it has everything. The setting is so gorgeous; you feel like you’re right in the forest and there are little twinkling lights, so if you can, try and be there when the sun goes down.

I loved our day at the spa. They also have a cabin where you can book a massage ( these book up fast so book far in advance!).

The cold plunge is both terrifying and exhilarating. If you can do it - it’s worth the euphoria afterwards.

WHERE WE ATE

One of the things that is awesome about the Kananaskis Lodge is the different options when it comes to dining.

There are 5 different restaurants /markets and of course in room dining. Casual dining at Forte ( spectacular breakfast brunch!), cocktails & side dishes at Blacktail Bar, a beautiful steakhouse called The Cedar Room , a fun pub & patio (summer) called Woodys and a Marketplace with take and go sandwiches, coffee and refreshments. Truly - something for everyone.

We were able to check our Forte during our stay a few times and it was delicious. The pastas are amazing and that breakfast brunch had literally everything you could ever think of for breakfast / brunch.

If you need more - Canmore & Banff are a short drive away as well.

ACTIVITIES

When we checked in the staff was so friendly and gave us a ton of ideas as to what we could do on the property. If you’ve got kids- this is the place to be! One of the things they had happening every night was “Fireside” nights. From 6pm-9pm there were campfires going on. They have a “S’more Station” where you an make your own delicious treats and just enjoy the ambiance of the mountains.

In the winter, when we went, they also have ice skating on the little pond in the village! And yes - you are able to rent skates if you need.

A little further down one of the trails- they even have a huge hockey rink!

TRAILS

There is a huge trail system all around the hotel with tons of great viewpoints as well as great opportunities for that perfect shot! Ask for a map at the front desk. One trail we checked out was called “TROLL FALLS”. It is about a 5 minute drive from the hotel and extremely easy to find. You can hike this in both winter and summer.

TIP FOR TROLL FALLS : Park in the parking lot and when walking make sure you turn left after the bathrooms. Don’t walk down all the way along the power lines.

It would take a normal person I would say around 30-40 mins to do this. With a family; I would say double that cause you know- snacks, breaks, everything takes longer.

The incline is not too steep and the waterfall at the end was awesome. There is also lots of fun things along the way to check out including some teepees! Many told us there were actual trolls hidden in the woods too that you could look for but I tried really hard and didn’t see any ha. That doesn’t mean they are not there.

If you’re looking for a mini getaway close to home - The Pomeroy Kananaskis Lodge is it. It’s perfect for families and for couples alike. It was exactly the reset we needed; if you can - go for the loft room with the wood burning fire place. It was truly magical!
