Hiking Grassi Lakes Trail

Hike1.jpg

We were recently in Kananaskis for a family wedding and decided to take in some of the sights! One trail that is pretty kid friendly ( I would say 5 years and up ) is Grassi Lakes Trail. It’s a steady but not too steep incline and takes about 1hr to climb up and 25 mins down.

At the “top” is a super cool green lake that is perfect for pictures. While you can’t swim in it there is a little stream off to the side that you can def cool down in!

GETTING THERE

The beginning of the trail is not far out of Canmore - but you should still drive. Head past the Canmore Nordic Centre and take the first left. You will go down a paved road and see a parking lot of your right.

TIP: Try and go as early as possible. There is a hill and you want to drive down it to the parking lot. However later in the day it gets REALLY busy and you will end up having to park at the upper parking lot. Not a big deal but that’s a steep hill to walk up after a hike! Or I’m just a baby haha.

WHAT TO WEAR

Running shoes will serve you just fine. At least on the “easy” trail. There are two ways you can take; the Easy or Hard trail. I have not even considered the hard one ha.

BATHROOMS

There are bathrooms right at the trailhead but no other bathrooms along the way.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring snacks and of course your phone or camera. Water is a must - especially with little ones : )

Hope you get the chance to get out and explore this great trail. We loved it & will def do it again!
